Does DStream Support MDX?
No. We have a like/hate relationship with MDX - we like it because it is really clever - and we hate it for the same reason. We think it falls at the first hurdle of keeping simple things simple. Others of course would disagree - but DStream is the
product of our need to get things done, today - and just as importantly make them maintainable and understandable in the future.
Why use DStream instead of conventional OLAP?
First of all, it is not an exclusive choice. DStream complements conventional OLAP extremely well - you can use DStream for real time updates to your core metrics, as well as handling the data storage.
But if you need a system that keeps all data up to date in a matter of milliseconds, conventional OLAP is just not an option.
